I have been hearing some things about this new Wes Craven flick called The Breed. Read the article from Fanoria about it....would be for those who like killer animal flicks.....
January 5: THE BREED howls down South
The Internet is rife with websites spilling weekly info on the movies opening each Friday—and we were rather startled when a couple of ’em noted that THE BREED, First Look’s killer-dog flick, was debuting today. Not in our area, it wasn’t, so we did a little surfing around and discovered an article in the Hampton Roads, Virginia Daily Press revealing that the movie is receiving a test run in seven theaters in the area. Apparently the location was chosen for its “large military population and a propensity for horror films to do well in local theaters,” according to the paper (whose headline refers to the nature-amok chiller as a “slasher flick”—sigh). “THE BREED’s performance in Hampton Roads—attendance and audience reaction—will determine how it will be marketed.”
THE BREED, which counts Wes Craven among its executive producers and was helmed by his frequent AD Nick Mastandrea from a script by Robert Conte and Peter Martin Wortmann, is about a group of vacationing friends terrorized by vicious canines on a remote island. First Look (which doesn’t even have the movie represented in the theatrical section of its official site) has already targeted the film for a May 22 DVD date, but we’ll let you know if any more big-screen bookings occur. —Michael Gingold
